Welcome to the Special Education Forum
The Special Education Forum was created for parents and professionals whose children and students learn differently. By hosting expert speakers and local resource providers for educational events throughout the year, we hope to build a vibrant “special education community” where we can all build skills and knowledge together.
The forum holds monthly meetings, from September through June. Each month, we host a noted speaker or a panel to discuss a significant topic of broad interest. There is always time reserved for questions and answers. In hosting these speakers we hope to assist parents in gaining access to information and resources they need. In addition, we hope to create an environment of information and resource sharing for parents and professionals to actively participate.
Meetings are held at the Barrington Area Library, 505 N. Northwest Highway (Route 14), Barrington, IL 60010. We open the doors at 6:30PM for a bit of mingling. Presentations start at 7:00PM and we usually wrap up just before 9:00PM. For a list of upcoming speakers and topics, please go under the Calendar tab in the menu.
If you miss a meeting, or just want to refresh your memory, we hope you’ll take a look at our Meeting Notes section. Here, we’ll provide a few key “takeaway” points from each meeting. We’ll also provide access to any documents and web links that were provided by our speakers.
Last, if you are the parent of a child with learning differences, an educator, therapist or professional in the field of special education, or if you are simply a person who cares about special education, we want to welcome you to the forum. We hope you will make it your own.
Please feel free to contact Laurie Feller at 847 387-3236 or Paul Conover at 847 387-8073 if you would like to know more, we'll be glad to hear from you!
